MarinMOCA offers art enrichment classes for all fourth- and fifth-grade students in the Novato Unified School District (NUSD). Two art instructors, sponsored through the Museum, will team-teach in the eight NUSD elementary schools, reaching up to 1,000 students.
Teaching takes place in approximately 20 different classrooms each semester. Over the course of ten weeks per semester, art instructors work together to team teach 60 minute classroom sessions. Each classroom receives two visits, approximately one week apart, focused on the completion of a project.
This year, MarinMOCA will collaborate with Painted Bins in creating an educational art project. Instructors will teach students about the value of environmental stewardship – specifically about the good of composting and recycling, and effective ways to reduce waste to landfill. Then, instructors will help students create a poster promoting composting and recycling, introducing key aspects of visual communication and effective design.
