About the Position

The Assistant Curator, Knight Art + Research Center will be an integral part of ICA Miami’s curatorial team, working directly with the Director, Knight Foundation Art + Research Center in support of ICA Miami’s pedagogical programs and initiatives. Additionally, the Assistant Curator, Knight Art + Research Center will assist with other ICA Miami public programs and provide general curatorial and administrative support.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

Research and Planning

  • Work with the Director, Knight Foundation Art + Research Center to implement ICA Miami’s mission and vision through the proposal and support of pedagogical programs and initiatives;

  • Participate in the conception and development of programs, lectures and symposia, publications and other media;

  • Spearhead ICA Miami’s e-publications project;

  • Work with funder to ensure ambition of newly initiated projects, and on branded events;

  • Propose and maintain budgets for initiated projects and provide support with budget compliance for active programs;

  • Serve as a liaison between guest lecturers and museum staff, facilitating the research and presentation processes by relaying protocols and timelines;

  • Provide support and develop proposals for ICA Miami programs, including commissions and collaborations with regional educational partners;

  • Serve as liaison between ICA Miami and exhibiting artists, when necessary;

  • Provide support and oversight in order to meet deadlines; and

  • Support ICA Miami’s exhibitions team, as needed.

Public Programs

  • Propose and participate in talks and symposia related to ICA Miami programs and hosted at the museum;

  • Work in close partnership with the Curatorial Team to contribute to programs related to the collection and special exhibitions, including, but not limited to, lectures, workshops, gallery presentations and other in-gallery interpretation efforts; and

  • Take a leading role in ICA Performs, in collaboration with Curatorial Team.

Scholarship and Editorial

  • Work with the Director, Knight Foundation Art + Research Center to propose and manage content for ICA Miami’s web site, Research.Art, and other editorial platforms.

General Curatorial and Administrative Support

  • Maintain Art + Research Center calendar, in coordination with general curatorial calendar;

  • Verify and input accurate information for publications; and

  • Serve as an ambassador for ICA Miami locally, nationally, and internationally, being an active member in the field as well as with the general public.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in art history or a comparable discipline;

  • Minimum of 2 years of applied curatorial experience;

  • Demonstrated abilities to work effectively as part of a team and also independently;

  • Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to oversee projects and schedules, maintain deadlines, work within budgets, set priorities, and manage multiple projects simultaneously;

  • Applied knowledge of professional museum principles, practices, and procedures;

  • Knowledge of scholarly research tools and methodologies;

  • Self-directed and motivated;

  • Collaborative, flexible, and helpful;

  • Excellent written, verbal, and listening communication skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally, including the ability to be an effective public speaker; and

  • Proficient computer skills.
