Marianne Boesky Gallery seeks an Associate Director for our Chelsea galleries. This position is full-time Tuesday through Saturday, from 10am to 6pm, plus openings, events and on call as needed. Salary is commensurate with experience and a competitive benefits package is provided.
The responsibilities and skills required of this role are wide-ranging and include but are not limited to:
Artist Management
Manage internal and external exhibitions for select artists including generating schedules and managing budgets
Track and convey all external and internal exhibitions, fairs, and events for select artists
Manage assorted projects such as commissions, public art proposals, art fairs, etc.
Generate and negotiate terms for commissions, special projects, museum loans, and consignments with third parties e.g., other galleries, museums, etc.
Manage shipping deadlines for exhibitions, events, art fairs, and special projects
Liaise with PR team about upcoming projects for gallery artists, connect them with appropriate third-party contacts
Working with the Archivist and Gallery Assistant, ensure images and press are compiled and distributed to artists
Coordinate and facilitate production of new work in the studio, keeping gallery staff up to date about forthcoming inventory
Review packing specifications of new work to ensure best practices are being upheld
Track acquisitions, exhibitions, and auction results for assigned artists
Propose and organize group exhibitions and/or viewing rooms
Obtain condition reports for works of interest at auction for represented artists
Obtain travel preferences and communicate to Gallery Assistant; oversee travel details
Financial
Research, propose, and formalize pricing and insurance values with Director oversight
Update prices holistically in the artwork database and across any external consignments or loan agreements
Track payments and invoicing due for special commissions and public projects
Assess and track various expenses associated with exhibition, production, framing and submit for approval
Sales
Communicate and conduct viewings on Directorsâ behalf
Represent the gallery at select art fairs and pop-ups as needed
Manage and update Artsy and Artnet listings
Manage art fair deadlines and prepare art fair applications
Provide sales support as needed
General
Directly supervise Gallery Assistant providing feedback and
Manage Gallery Assistant in compiling interest lists for guest invitations and mailings
Ensure Gallery Assistants are maintaining standards for artist CVs, overviews webpages (gallery website, Artsy, etc.)
Qualifications
Bachelorâs degree, a focus in in art history or visual fine arts is preferred
At least 3 years of experience in a similar role in a gallery, auction house or art advisory firm
Discreet and professional demeanor
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Punctual, proactive, organized and detail oriented with exceptional problem-solving skills
Ability to work under pressure with a capacity to prioritize and multitask to meet deadlines
Ability to work with others and independently when necessary
Proficiency in Adobe Suites, Artlogic, Microsoft Office and SketchUp experience is preferred
