Interlochen Center for the Arts, one of America’s most prestigious institutions for arts education, performance, and fine arts presentations seeks an associate director for its lifelong learning programs (Interlochen College of Creative Arts - ICCA) and coordinator of community education opportunities.

The Associate Director will be the primary leader of the lifelong learning programs by working with Interlochen arts leadership to engage creative adults, arts professionals, and adult avocational artists in a wide range of artistic programs and opportunities. The Associate Director will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the division and will support the growth of the division by working closely with the Office of Education, arts division directors, and other Interlochen team members to deliver high-quality arts education programs on campus and virtually. The Associate Director will also serve as the primary education facilitator for community education opportunities, including hosting school visits for performances, working with community connections on outreach opportunities, supporting student and faculty tours, and more.

The Associate Director will oversee all planning and implementation for continuing education programs, which includes, but is not limited to: publicity (print, mail and online formats), venue selection, accommodations, catering, staffing as required, registration and payments, technology coordination, transportation, and social events. The Associate Director will manage course/conference documentation processes including, but not limited to: assessment of institutional and constituent needs and interests, educational objectives, and evaluation/assessment of course content, instructor effectiveness and administration.

In addition to regular office hours, the Associate Director will be expected to work and be available to provide program support during evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Planning, organizing, and delivering artistic programs and services to adult learners on campus and virtually.

  • Serving as the on-site organizer during program delivery to ensure that all details are carried out correctly.

  • Writing course catalogues and working with a small team to schedule courses, enter data, and manage program registration in SalesForce, Convio, and the Drupal web platform.

  • Working with instructors to ensure that program operations are of high quality.

  • Coordinating guest speaker/instructor travel, accommodations, payment of expenses and honoraria

  • Communicating with participants and sponsors providing commercial support with instructions and information concerning their participation.

  • Developing program web pages for use in distributing program information, including logistics and materials.

  • Managing program expenses so that they are aligned with the established budget for each course/program, managing budgets as required; and managing accounts payable and receivables

  • Directing all program compliance and records management as applicable with Michigan state continuing education requirements

  • Working in collaboration with the IT and Marketing teams to manage enrollments and promote continuing education programs and opportunities.

  • Providing supervision to ICCA volunteers and interns.

  • Coordinating campus visit opportunities for school performances.

  • Managing outreach opportunities for students within the community.

Requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4-5 years prior work experience in an academic environment or leadership role

at an arts and cultural institution or related field is required, experience in continuing education programming and event management a plus.

  • A self-starter with demonstrated skills and capacities to manage a series of concurrent programs, events, and tasks simultaneously.

  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, be highly organized, and able to handle multiple tasks while maintaining a high level of customer service.

  • Must be willing to work weekends and evenings as necessary when programs are in operation.

  • Must be willing to manage and be flexible during increase in summer season programming.

  • Should have some familiarity with a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures related to the general educational needs of adult learners.

  • A background in the arts is highly desirable.
