The Assistant Curator for Northern Art will be an expert in the history of Northern European Art, in charge of the collection of paintings and sculptures from the Netherlands, Flanders and Germany at The Frick Collection. He/she will be working on art historical research around the Collection in these fields. He/she will be in charge of researching and writing collection catalogues in this area of the Collection. The Assistant Curator will also be in charge of presenting exhibition proposals and curating exhibitions in that area of the Collection, spanning the chronological period from the 14th to the 17th century, and the geographical areas of the Netherlands, Flanders, Germany and France. He/she will coordinate permanent collection art moves in that area, in collaboration with the curators. He/she will be encouraged to contribute to projects in other areas.

Responsibilities

Assisting with researching, writing texts for, and installation plans for long-term loans to Collection.

Assisting with permanent collection gallery labels.

Writing articles for The Frick Collection’s Members Magazine.

Participating in Education programs with lectures, seminars, and gallery talks.

Contributing to donors’ cultivation and fundraising.

Requirements

Ph.D. in art history in the fields of Flemish or Dutch art between the 14th and the 17th centuries.

Scholarly publications spanning the range between early Netherlandish art and Golden Age Dutch and/or Flemish art.

Established expertise in the history of both painting and sculpture.

Exceptional knowledge of at least one of these languages: Dutch, Flemish, French, German.

Additional secondary knowledge of one of these languages: Dutch, Flemish, French, German.

Established skills in public speaking and lecturing.

Previous curatorial experience in museum world.
