This position is located in the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden (HMSG), Smithsonian Institution. The employee is responsible for the management and coordination of exhibitions and other special projects and for the management of select curatorial and programmatic affairs at the museum including activities spanning multiple Hirshhorn departments and interactions with other Smithsonian offices and outside institutions.

Responsibilities
  • Oversees the coordination of activities related to the development and implementation of all Hirshhorn exhibition projects.

  • Works with other members of Hirshhorn’s Senior Staff, maintains and evaluates the current and future exhibition master schedule.

  • Calls and schedules cross-departmental project team meetings for all exhibitions.

  • Advises Director, Deputy Director, and Chief Curator on strategic placement of all exhibition projects on the Museum’s schedule

  • Assists the Deputy Director in various aspects of the realization of an exhibition and other program projects.

  • Leads the exhibition budget creation process for each new fiscal year or exhibition, creating new project budget templates, databases, and other tools as need to accurately plan and track costs and spending for multiyear exhibition projects.

  • Oversees select administrative functions for the curatorial department.

  • Represents the Hirshhorn in contractual and financial matters related to exhibition partnerships with other museums in the United States and abroad by negotiating exhibition agreements.
