Custom Art Surfaces, LLC is an art fabrication shop focusing on museum grade canvases, stretcher bars, panels, and other painting surfaces. Our company provides materials to a wide range of artists in the Los Angeles area specializing in oversize pieces, unique shapes, and custom surface preparation.
We are looking for a full time, canvas stretcher / finisher to join our team in Downtown Los Angeles. The ideal candidate for this position is interested and invested in the LA art scene, has stretching experience, and is looking for a creative, collaborative, and hands-on work place.
Compensation:
Hourly Rate will start at $18.00/hr
Generous PTO plan
Real W2 position, not 1099

Responsibilities
Duties Include:
Stretching canvas, linen, and other painting substrates
Preparation of painting surfaces with gesso, grounds, and other media
General maintenance, organization, and cleaning of work areas
Working with other employees on larger projects
Operation of power and pneumatic hand tools
Deliveries to customers
Occasionally assisting in the fabrication of stretcher bars, panels, frames, etc.
Occasionally working one on one with clients to achieve specific creative goals
Occasionally working offsite in artists studios, galleries, etc to fabricate and install onsite projects
Requirements
Requirements:
Must have experience stretching canvas and/or other painting substrates
Must have experience with basic power tools and be able to safely operate them in a shared shop environment (or be willing and able to learn)
An interest in and/or knowledge of fine art painting surfaces
1-2 years of relevant work experience (minimum)
Good communication, comprehension, and problem solving skills
Basic math and geometry skills
A strong eye for details and precision while working
Must be able to lift upwards of 50lbs unassisted and work on your feet for extended periods of time
Desired Skills and Experiences:
Knowledge of fine art and/or the LA art scene
Upholstery work
Fine art handling
Carpentry knowledge and experience is a plus
