SUMMARY:
Our Vintage Movie Posters department is seeking a Cataloger to research and write descriptions for incoming consignment material for auction. Includes researching and describing related collectible material for printed catalogs and online.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Write accurate catalog descriptions of vintage posters, lobby cards, photos, and related film promotional materials for upcoming auctions
Effectively and efficiently use appropriate research tools and make inquiries necessary to gather and confirm factual information for descriptions
Proof/edit description text and review images for catalog production
Prioritize lots based on estimated values and determine the appropriate length of associated description copy
Work with prospective bidders to help answer questions about lots as potential purchases at the auction
Able to lift boxes of material up to 50 pounds
Travel is possible for trade shows, etc., as needed
Work auctions as necessary
Other duties as may be assigned
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required, major in English or History a plus
Experience working in the Movie Poster trade and/or an auction house is also a plus
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Proficient in Microsoft applications, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel
Follows established standards, takes direction well, high ability to multitask, and pays great attention to detail
Demonstrates strong organizational and prioritization skills to meet deadlines and complete projects on time
Willing to learn; works well independently and in a team environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills: concise, accurate, and thorough
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends during the auction writing crunches as needed
