Studio Fabricators must have a high level of working knowledge of best practices for slab ceramics in order to assist with the fabrication of high-quality and large slab construction ceramics for wholesale, trade, and custom commissioned orders
Perform slab constructed fabrication duties such as preparing and assembling production ceramics large scale planters, vases, and art works. Applicant must have at least 6 years of slabbing experience - specially focused on large scale works or comparable. Wheel throwing skills are not transferable for this studio’s construction methods.
Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time, utilize hands and arms in a variety of positions with a wide range of grip strength and manual dexterity, and lift and carry up to 20 pounds
Who we are: The setting for this position is within a 3,300 sq ft warehouse in East LA, that houses the creation, fabrication and sale of mixed media sculpture with a primary focus in ceramics.
With six full time employees, the studio is a business first and an artist studio second - we offer up to 36 hours per week plus a full benefit package that includes shared-cost health insurance after 60 days.

Essential Duties:
The essential duties outlined below form the core functions of the Experienced Fabricator position and provide an overview of the scope of the position and the primary work to be performed. Please note that the actual duties to be performed will be determined by the production needs of the studio as directed by the Creative Director.
Consult with the Creative Director on product design and development
Lend assistance and provide guidance to other employees, as needed
Share knowledge and techniques with other employees, as needed
Maintain the facility at optimal levels and provide guidance in streamlining processes to achieve maximum output, superior products and services, and the utmost in customer service and satisfaction
Fabrication of production ceramics / art ceramics
Carry out the drying process of all production / art ceramics
Assist with the loading and unloading of kilns, as needed and requested
Assist with glazing, as needed and requested
Assist with rolling out slabs and prepping, as needed and requested
Learn and master all large scale production processes and products
Oversee the updating and completion of the production schedule on a daily basis
Maintain and update the production manual, as required
Continue to develop digital and analog templates as needed in consultation with the Fabricators
Continue to develop processes in the studio for how employees build, store items, and organize space within the studio
Assist with packing and shipping large freight, as needed and requested
Participate in cross-training in production of larges, kiln tech, slab rolling, shipping and glazing, as requested by the Creative Director
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains a tidy, clean, safe and professional personal work space and studio environment
Works well with others and maintains harmonious and collaborative relationships with individuals working within the studio as a team
Communicates effectively and with tact and respect and clearly demonstrates professional boundaries at all times
Meets and greets individuals that visit and/or contact the studio with a warm welcome and professional assistance
Works well in a fast-paced and experimental environment with numerous overlapping deadlines, self motivated.
Demonstrates a keen eye and attention to detail when juggling multiple tasks
Maintains daily awareness of the needs within the studio and effectively communicates those needs to the Creative Director and Lead Fabricators
Demonstrates the ability and willingness to receive, follow and support the needs and requests of the Creative Director at all times
Must be willing to provide services during scheduled hours of operation which are typically Monday through Friday from 10am to 7pm
Must be willing to provide a predetermined number of service hours per week to the studio on a regular and consistent basis
Must maintain strict, continuous, and complete confidentiality at all times regarding any and all matters within the studio
Physical Demands:
Must be able to push, pull, bend, stoop, squat, turn from front to back, turn from side to side, reach above shoulder level, and lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Must be able to sit, stand, and assume a variety of positions for extended periods of time
Must be able to work in a studio environment with cement floors, air temperatures that may reach approximately 100 degrees in the summer months, and within limited fabrication spaces when production activities are in full swing
Must be able to drive his/her own vehicle which is in good working condition, have a good driving record, and meet the minimum requirements for vehicle insurance in California
