Union Hall is seeking a Chief Curator, who will continue to establish Union Hall as an important cultural leader in Denver and beyond, by bringing poignant, thought-provoking conversations to Denver through exhibitions and programming and maintaining strong relationships with the creative community (locally + nationally). This is a part-time position, contracted for an average of 20 hours/week on an ongoing basis.

Union Hall is seeking a multi-tasker who is able to stay on top of multiple projects, adaptable to changing priorities, and proactive. This position reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for all exhibition curation, communication with artists and guests curators, as well as representation in the arts community of Denver.

Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Executing all aspects of exhibition curation, including: research, planning, and artist management

  • Executing artist talks and other supplementary programs surrounding the exhibitions

  • Writing and editing curatorial statements, exhibition text, artist bios, and other materials for exhibition guide, press releases, social media, and other marketing materials for specific exhibitions/programming

  • Leading Union Hall’s annual curatorial program, Rough Gems, from January through May of each year, supporting and mentoring Rough Gems guest curators in the curation and conceptualization of their pop-up exhibitions, including occasional check-ins, review of materials, and coordination of curatorial talks

  • Fostering engagement and building relations within in the arts community of Denver

  • Coordination of shipping, installation, lighting, and de-installation for all artworks with or without art handler support

  • Producing loan agreements and contracts for all exhibitions

  • Maintaining comprehensive internal files for all exhibitions

  • Creating and maintaining exhibition and programming budgets

  • Preparing updates for board as necessary and attending board meetings as needed

  • Supporting the Executive Director and Gallery & Marketing Manager as needed with additional tasks

Requirements

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; fine arts, art history, arts management, museum studies, or other relevant degrees accepted

  • Previous experience working in a gallery, museum, or other related arts organization

  • Experience with exhibition curation, including artist research, conceptualization, and execution

  • Experience with exhibition installation, including familiarity with various hanging methods and tools, and vinyl installation

  • Familiarity with projectors, monitors, and other tools relating to the installation of digital artworks preferred

  • High attention to detail

  • Highly organized, motivated, able to work independently and as a team member

  • Maintains professional demeanor; demonstrates integrity and confidentiality

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills; effectively builds trust with artists, partners, and donors through written and oral correspondence

  • Driver’s license, reliable transportation and current automobile insurance required

  • Flexibility in day-to-day job responsibilities and hours, including frequent evening and weekend events, and varying hours on a week-to-week basis
