The Bass, Miami Beach’s contemporary art museum, seeks a full-time Collections Manager. The Collections Manager is a key member of the Curatorial and Exhibitions team supporting the documentation, care, and presentation of the permanent collection and loans for temporary exhibitions. Key responsibilities include the management of transportation of works of art, applying experience with insurance papers, contracts, and associated legal documentation. The Collections Manager communicates efficiently with a range of constituents at the Museum and beyond while multitasking responsibilities and commitments. The Collections Manager will apply best museum practices for archiving, storing, and maintaining works of art.

The annual salary range for this position is $50 – 60K commensurate to experience.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate shipment of artwork to/from the Museum including the organization of transportation, insurance, and storage.

  • Communicate with lenders regarding shipment, documentation, and installation of artwork.

  • Assist with condition checks and installation of permanent collection rotations and temporary exhibitions.

  • Manage loans, including the maintenance and calendar of installations of art outdoors.

  • Prepare, manage, and execute plans for storing artworks onsite and offsite.

  • Plan and manage collections budget.

  • Document and archive records and files—electronic and otherwise—for collection rotations and temporary exhibitions.

  • Work with Curatorial and Exhibitions team to manage Museum’s digital database including maintaining up-to-date object information and photography.

  • Process and manage payments for invoices and vendors.

  • Assist with supervision of art handlers and preparators.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Minimum three years collections management experience at an art museum or private collection required.

  • Superior organizational, written, and verbal skills required.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills required.

  • Extremely detail oriented with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of collections management database software.

  • Knowledge and experience working with digital and new media art prioritized.

  • Knowledge of and experience with insurance documents, contracts and legal documentation related to the care, loan, and transportation of works of art.

  • Computer proficiency – MS Office Suite including Windows, and Acrobat required; Experience with Adobe Creative Suite desirable.

KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION:

BA degree with concentration in art history, library science or museum studies program required.
