Part-Time, approximately 15 hours per week, onsite Tues and Thur, 10am-5pm with the capacity to work evening and weekend events.
The Communications Coordinator will strategize and implement outreach efforts and external communications for the gallery. They will serve as a content creator, flexible writer, copyeditor, and proofreader for communications channels. They will manage initiatives related to digital communications, social media, press relations, and marketing, working to creatively promote the gallery’s exhibitions, educational and public programs, special events and initiatives, while ensuring consistent messaging and positioning of the gallery across all platforms.
The ideal candidate is a poised, collaborative, and creative individual with superior project management and communication skills who is eager to learn and grow with the gallery. They will have a passion for engaging audiences with current social justice issues and contemporary art via print and electronic media.
Maintain a consistent, organized, and timely workflow to meet deadlines and to outline project schedules and new initiatives
Create a communications strategy for each exhibition and nonprofit partnership to deliver clear and creative messaging
Develop and implement social media content
Generate and support the writing, copy editing, and proofreading for all external content and communications pieces
Coordinate and work directly with the gallery’s external PR firm
Targeted outreach efforts
Provide monthly reports analyzing engagement data
Foster key marketing partnerships and cross-promotional initiatives with other cultural institutions and local partners
Compose regular e-mail newsletters
Experience Required: 1–2 years of professional experience in an equivalent or related position
Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Art or comparable experience Skilled writer & researcher
Experience creating social media campaigns and content for Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter
Strong organizational skills and ability to perform accurate, detailed work under time constraints
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to interact with diverse groups
Supportive team player
Writing samples, especially those related to the arts and/or social justice issues in Chicago, are required.
