Crate builder (LAX adjacent)

Full time crate builder and packer needed for well established fine art and antique packing and crating shop in the LAX area. Job duties include crate construction, care for and handling of fine art and delicate objects.

  • Must have knowledge of typical wood shop tools and basic shop math.

  • Ability to read and process crate designs to given specifications.

  • Must have 2 years experience in a crate shop.

  • Art knowledge a plus but not required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Crater must have existing carpentry skills with a minimum of 2 years of professional experience, and ability to take instruction, communicate clearly, then work independently.

  • No prior crate-specific experience needed, but must be able to create precise and aesthetic work product, as well as learn and incorporate feedback.

  • Candidate must be able to take appropriate care in high-value warehouse environment.

  • Forklift skills a plus, but not required.

  • Flexible hours, hourly rate commensurate with experience.

  • Must be able to lift heavy sheet goods safely.

  • Safely operate power tools and related equipment to manufacture individually designed wood crates for the handling, packing, and shipping of fine art, antiques and artifacts.

  • Prepare insulation, cushioning foams and inner packing materials according to a variety of design specifications.

  • Perform shop maintenance, safety inspections, and other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

  • Participate in training in the areas of shop safety and production.
