The Creative Media Manager for Carnegie Museum of Natural History (CMNH) is a skilled storyteller who shoots, produces, records, and edits video and audio content for CMNH’s marketing, social media channels, webpages, digital platforms, podcasts, and exhibitions. This position collaborates frequently with colleagues in the departments of Exhibitions; Education and Lifelong Learning; and Science, Research, and Collections to adapt technical, scientific source material concerning the museum’s research and discoveries into content that is accessible, intellectual, entertaining, and engaging for diverse audiences and education levels. Demonstrated passion for science, natural history, and conservation a must.

Responsibilities include executing all stages of creating video, audio, and photographic content, including pre- and post-production. This position contributes to discussions about goals and opportunities for the creative media program, including strategizing improvements and innovations to incorporate media more dynamically inside and outside the museum.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • The position requires creative visual storytelling skills, as well as sophisticated technical training and experience.

  • Strong communication skills, initiative, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential.

  • The candidate must be able to prioritize multiple projects in a busy environment.

  • Working knowledge of photography, basic copyright law, and music licensing is desirable.

EQUIPMENT PROVIDED: Digital HD video camera, professional digital audio recording devices, continuous lighting equipment and lighting modifiers (reflectors, baffles, scrims, etc.), tripods, microphones, digital SLR cameras, and computers (Windows or Mac).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift and carry up to 20lbs of equipment. This position involves transporting and installing equipment—including cameras, lighting, microphones, and recording materials—to various locations in the museum and Powdermill Nature Reserve.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • A college degree in video production or a related field required

  • 3-5 years of experience in multimedia capture and production, including expertise in use of industry-standard nonlinear multi-track video and audio editing/post-production software (Apple Final Cut Studio) and image editing and processing software such as Adobe Photoshop, required.

  • 3-5 years of experience, in video/audio compression variables, formatting options, and color compensation/correction is required, along with demonstrated fluency in web channels such as YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook required.

  • Portfolio presentation required.
