The High Museum of Art seeks an experienced and innovative curator with expertise in African art. Under the supervision of the Chief Curator, the Curator of African art will oversee all aspects of the Museum’s curatorial program for African art, including a collection of nearly 1,200 works from ancient to contemporary. Highlights of the collection include exceptional examples of sculpture, masks, textiles, metalwork, and ceramics largely from West and Central Africa, major works by Asante and Yoruba artists, as well recent works by artists including El Anatsui, Magdalene Odundo, and Nandipha Mntambo. The broad nature of the collection and the High’s collaborative approach affords the new Curator an opportunity to chart new areas of growth as well as partner with regional, national, and international colleagues in developing the Museum’s African art program.
In addition to a dedicated interest in and knowledge of African art, the preferred candidate will bring a balance of expertise, creativity, and organizational skills to the wider responsibilities of the position.
Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm.
