Summary of Duties

• Conceptualizes, designs, and directs programs and teaching strategies that align with the mission and values of MAAM and the college. Develop overarching program strategy for a wide range of art-centered teaching and learning tools, engagements, and programs including Looking to Learn (grades 4 - 12), Drawing Together, among others. Oversees implementation of in-person (including actively teaching) and/or virtual programs and monitors program evaluations, making adjustments to enhance effectiveness.

• Oversees MassArt student connections at MAAM through employment opportunities and curriculum engagement. Encourages MassArt student involvement with the museum and supports curricula in departments across the college. Works with faculty to develop connections to the undergraduate curriculum including coursework development and related assignments, internships, and practicum work. Creates and implements a museum-centered training plan and curriculum for all student employees at MAAM (including Museum Attendants, Museum Installers, Interns, and others).

• Administers the operation of MAAM’s education programs, including the management of annual budget (budget planning, payments, and fund disbursements) with the Executive Director, as well as the hiring, training, and supervision of all contracted educators. Works to be an effective cross-museum collaborator by participating in shared timelines, museum promotion, marketing, and advocacy, and creating meaningful metrics of evaluating programs. Develops and prepares informational and promotional materials for education-related initiatives.

• Enact mission-centered pathways for a welcoming, inclusive environment. Develop an engagement plan to affirm that each visitor can meaningfully engage with contemporary art to continue a relationship with MAAM and the college. Supports the college’s and MAAM’s mission of community engagement through collaboration with Artward Bound, Center for Art and Community Partnerships, Youth Programs, and other pertinent departments to coordinate pathways for all audiences to connect with the museum and college.

• Work with other areas of the college on funding pathways. Works closely with the college’s Division of Institutional Advancement and MAAM Executive Director on fundraising initiatives for continued support for educational programs (e.g. grant proposals, reporting, meeting donors) and development of inter-departmental funding opportunities.

• Actively engages in the current discourse in the museum education field (e.g. through scholarship, presentation, publication, professional development, and so forth) and acts as an ambassador between the museum’s education program and professional peers.

• Works to create and sustain a positive and collaborative culture so that MAAM is always welcoming to our community through its public programs and facilities.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• BA or BFA in art education, art history, museum studies, studio art, or related humanities field, and/or equivalent relevant experience.

• Must have minimum 3 years of experience in the field with demonstrated program development and public engagement as an art educator in a museum or community art program. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience in teaching and learning practices that speak and respond to multiple learning styles and abilities, cultural backgrounds, and educational pathways.

• Creative thinker with leadership qualities and a passion for public engagement with museums. A knowledge and understanding of innovative practices in education, art, social justice, and community engagement.

• Must be able to inspire and supervise full and part-time staff in a public-facing, multi-tasking, team-oriented environment.

• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to establish and adhere to project goals, budgets, and deadlines.

• Proficiency with and willingness to learn technology including Asana, G Suite, Slack, personal computer, and related technology.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• An advanced degree.

• Bilingual communication skills (Spanish is preferred).
