Studio Manager
Trevor Paglen Studio
We are looking for a highly motivated, flexible and detail-oriented person to join us in working on international exhibitions, performances, and productions.
The ideal person probably has a background in art, film, or theater production and is used in a dynamic production-oriented environment. The person should be self-motivated and able to anticipate studio and project needs with minimal guidance. They should be a creative problem solver, a good communicator, and have a good sense of humor and sense of purpose.
We’re not going to lie: the job can not be done in a hurry, especially when we’re in crunch mode. As such, the Studio Manager should have the flexibility to work overtime and weekends on short notice as needed (this does not happen that often). What’s more, we develop projects all over the world and sometimes have to make requests and meetings at odd hours because of time zones. Occasional travel may be expected. The artist is often traveling and out-of-town.
The job requires fluency in written and spoken German and somewhat professionally. The Studio Manager mostly works independently and reports to the Studio Director. Salary is commensurate with experience and skill base.
Administrative Responsibilities Include:
Acting as the interface between the studio, galleries, press, external fabricators, exhibition spaces, etc.
Act as main point-of-contact for the studio, including managing email and phone
Oversee day-to-day studio maintenance and operations including shipping and receiving, meeting visitors, etc.
Keeping stocks of studio materials
Maintaining database and inventory
Tracking and managing payments and invoicing
Maintain artist’s schedule and travel arrangements
Maintain press archive and bibliography
Maintain office equipment
Project Management Responsibilities:
Create, maintain and track project budgets
Create and oversee production schedules for various projects
Manage exhibitions including coordinating with galleries and museums
Support the work of the production team
Production Responsibilities:
Research materials, fabricators, suppliers
Procure quotes and materials samples
Assist in art production as necessary
Oversee fabrication
Required software skills:
Basic to moderate Photoshop and Illustrator
Office suite
Familiarity with Sketchup is a big help if you know it
Languages:
Speak English in the studio for everyday operations
Studio Manager should probably evaluate this on a case-by-case basis
Please send applications to paglen.info (at) gmail.com and include a resume, a cover letter that specifically addresses your experience in production environments, three professional references, and any relevant documentation of your projects role in them.
We are looking to conduct interviews in July and August and have some start in late August or early September. The studio manager wants to get in touch with the current studio manager for one month.
