Manager Of Family Programs

The Manager of Family Programs develops and implements all aspects of public program delivery for family audiences; plans and collaborates on vision for campus wide family audience activation; and supervises the Family Programs Assistant.

Responsibilities
  • Plans, coordinates, and oversees the development and implementation of family programming that encourages cross-pollination between public program participation and exhibition viewing.

  • Designs and implements family learning activities for specific Museum-wide events and campus- events such as Toddler Takeover in collaboration with the Woodruff Arts Center arts partners.

  • Facilitates drop-in gallery learning activities and events for families at the Museum such as Toddler Thursdays, School Vacation week and summer programs, Family Festivals and Second Sunday Fundays.

  • Oversees development of smARTbox interactive gallery cards, registration process, and activity distribution, and as well as coordination with Guest Relations team.

  • Works with the Head of Public Programs and Community Engagement and Interpretation team to develop event specific interactive materials and self-guided activities for gallery use by families.

  • Researches, implements, and models interactive and engaging teaching methods for family audiences including in-gallery learning activities, art-making workshops, and performance based educational programming.

  • Works with the Head of Public Programs and Community Engagement on annual budget development, analysis, and review process for family programming.

  • Recruits, trains, and supervises the Family Programs Assistant; a cadre of talented and highly effective community- based teaching and performing artists who will provide services, teach classes, and perform during public programs; and volunteers to serve as greeters and assistants for events and programs.

  • Works with internal stakeholders including Security, Special Events, Guest Relations to create and maintain a welcoming and inclusive environment for family audiences.

  • Develops and delivers effective presentations about family audiences and family programming to senior staff and stakeholders.

  • Works with the High’s Public Programs team, the Woodruff Arts Center Family Programs team, Special Events team, and PR & Marketing to plan and implement a highly ambitious annual schedule for family programming in Museum spaces and throughout the Woodruff Arts Center.

  • Works with AV tech, Visitor Services, Housekeeping, Security, Special Events, Woodruff Arts Center Box Office, and other support staff to produce family programs including advance planning, onsite logistics and ticketing, and customer relations.

  • Works with PR & Marketing to develop and edit program copy for member newsletter, website, flyers and other media.

  • Tracks and communicates statistics and produces program reports and documentation for distribution internally and externally as needed.

  • Participates in planning meetings; learns about exhibitions and special projects that inform program development.

  • Keeps informed about other museum education programs locally, in other cities, as well as museums nationally and internationally.

Education and Experience:

  • BA in Art History, Art Education, or Humanities.

  • Master’s degree in Museum Education, Art History, Art Education, or Humanities preferred.

  • A minimum of 3-5 years experience developing and implementing programs for families and/or youth within a museum setting.

  • Must be a team player with an ability to work with a variety of contractors, community stakeholders, artists, and staff.

  • Proven track record with managing events and programs.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current learning theories; object-based teaching; and visitor research for museum audiences.

  • Demonstrated experience working with children and family program development within a museum context.

  • Excellent writing, oral communication, interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Must be able to manage numerous projects simultaneously and to work independently and at a high level of productivity in a very busy office.

  • Creative thinker and problem solver

  • Computer experience including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
