We have an opening for an Associate Curator to organize, plan, and implement exhibitions towards the goal of maintaining a reputation of international distinction within the museum field.

Responsibilities

Conceptualize, organize, and assist in managing exhibitions of varying scale and special projects as assigned, both originated in-house and traveling.

Participate in all related aspects including research, writing of catalogue and didactic materials, coordinating loans and installation, developing and monitoring budgets, volunteer guide training, and public talks.

Participate in the MCA’s ongoing effort to build, present, and interpret its permanent collection, especially in the realm of art and artists from the Middle East, North Africa and/or South Asia, which includes writing reports on possible acquisitions, building presentations for committee meetings, and gathering proper information and documentation.

Maintain donor relations by visiting collections, fielding inquiries, leading tours, and cultivating support.

Supervise interns on a revolving basis, as well as direct the activities of a curatorial assistant on research projects.

Keep abreast of all aspects of the contemporary art world by maintaining contacts with colleagues in the field and developing knowledge of international, national, and local artists; new scholarship; and literature in the field. Undertake research travel, as appropriate, under the auspices of the MCA.

Requirements

Desired qualifications are a MA or MFA in Art or Art History; a minimum of 5 years museum experience, research position at a college or university, and/or independent curating; and:

Special expertise in art and artists from the Middle East, North Africa and/or South Asia is preferred.

Writing, fundraising, and public-speaking experience.

This is a full time position with a schedule of five days per week, with varied hours based on program schedules and off-site work requirements including evenings and events as necessary. National and international travel for research is expected. Ability to operate general office equipment and telephones and mobility throughout museum required.
