The Terra Foundation for American Art seeks to hire a Curatorial Associate for a full-time one-year fixed-term position. CDD (contrat à durée déterminée) based in Paris, 7th arrondissement.

The Foundation seeks a Curatorial Associate for a full-time (35h/week) one-year fixed-term position (May or June 2019–April or May 2020) (CDD – contrat à durée déterminée), with the possibility of the position transitioning to a long-term position (CDI – contrat à durée indéterminée). This position will report directly to the Paris-based Curator.

Organization

The Terra Foundation for American Art is dedicated to fostering exploration, understanding, and enjoyment of the visual arts of the United States for national and international audiences. Recognizing the importance of experiencing original works of art, the foundation provides opportunities for interaction and study, beginning with the presentation and growth of its own art collection in Chicago. To further cross-cultural dialogue on American art, the foundation supports and collaborates on innovative exhibitions, research, and educational programs.

Responsibilities
  • Providing administrative support for curatorial programs, including partnerships and initiatives throughout Europe

  • Assisting with general curatorial duties, including correspondence, public inquiries, preparing, and maintaining files

  • Assisting with general research and documentation related to the Terra Foundation collection

  • Compiling bibliography and other preliminary research materials for publications and exhibitions

  • Preparing documents on projects and initiatives for presentation to Terra Foundation Board

  • Providing administrative support for exhibition projects, including preparation, implementation, and archiving

  • Contributing to collection pages of the TFAA website

Requirements
  • Strong and demonstrable research, writing, and organizational skills

  • Knowledge of standard museum and preservation practices

  • Ability to work independently and with a team, manage multiple concurrent projects, and meet deadlines

  • Familiarity with Parisian research libraries

  • Detail-oriented

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in a museum or cultural institution

  • Master’s degree in art history or related field, with some knowledge of historical American art preferred

  • Fluency in French and English

  • Proficiency with MS Office suite and experience with collection management systems and data entry

  • French working papers
