The Peabody Essex Museum is one of the nations most dynamic art museums and operates on a global stage through its initiatives, networks, and patrons. PEM is dedicated to transforming peoples lives by creating a museum experience that celebrates the capacity of art and culture to inform and change our understanding of our place in the world.

The museum encompasses nearly 500,000 square feet of gallery and public space, including 26,000 square feet of exhibition galleries and 55,000 square feet of galleries devoted to collection installations and interpretation. PEM is adding a 40,000 square foot new wing scheduled to open in summer 2019. It will include 19,000 square feet for collection installations and additional public and educational spaces.

Responsibilities

We are currently seeking an experienced full time Maintenance Supervisor to perform a variety of tasks to ensure the safe and proper operation of the museums facilities and related historic properties. Reporting to the Facilities Operations Manager, the qualified candidate will be able to perform the following:

Supervise, coach, develop direct reports, and coordinate their activities Plan workday and manage equipment, parts and materials inventory Oversee general maintenance and repair activities including painting, light carpentry, relamping, office moves, snow removal, and duties as assigned Demonstrate ability and train others in proper use of a variety of hand tools, power tools and equipment Capable of effectively communicating in both oral and written form Receive and give instructions/ prepare work orders and reports Measure distance and calculate quantities Read and interpret specifications and blueprints Perform a variety of physical labor including climbing ladders, bending, kneeling, reaching, and standing for long periods of time Lift and carry boxes, tools, equipment and materials Report projects needed to be serviced by outside contractors Maintain files and inventory records of supplies Set priorities for critical work orders Coordinate several projects simultaneously Plan and coordinate work schedules for afterhours work Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, patrons, and community Possess, or ability to obtain OSHA 10 Certification

Requirements

If you are a highly motivated individual with a professional, can-do attitude and who enjoys a collaborative work environment we urge you to apply. Work overtime, some weekends, and respond to off-hour emergencies as required. The Museum provides uniforms. A High School Diploma, a valid drivers license, and the equivalent of five or more years of full-time trade or general maintenance experience is required. Experience in a commercial, multi-building environment is preferred.
