The Santa Barbara Museum of Art is one of the finest museums on the West coast and is celebrated for the superb quality of its permanent collection. Its mission is to integrate art into the lives of people through internationally recognized exhibitions, special programs, as well as the thoughtful presentation of its permanent collection.

On the verge of reopening newly renovated galleries, The Museum is seeking the ideal candidate for a full-time, Departmental Curatorial Assistant, responsible for the administration of the Curatorial Department. Reporting to the Deputy Director/Chief Curator, this position’s primary responsibility will include oversight of day-to-day curatorial operations, including answering queries from the public, interfacing with Registration and Facilities on quarterly photography sessions, Collections Committee Meetings, and Exhibition scheduling.

Responsibilities

Other responsibilities include support of permanent collection related research, generation and production of didactics, as well as TMS data entry, and exhibition support as assigned. They also function as the point person for any additional venues for traveling exhibitions and work closely with registration on matters pertaining to shipping and insurance.

Requirements

Passionate interest in the history of art required. Developed interest in antiquities and/or historical American and European art a plus. Minimum of one year fine art museum experience preferred. Must have excellent research and organizational skills, a strong ability to multi-task, proficiency with MS Office, and excellent written communication skills is required. Bachelor of Arts in Art or Art History required. Bachelor of Arts in Art or Art History required. Knowledge of TMS software, Photoshop, and basic graphic design skills are preferred. Sociability and the ability to work well across departments also a must, as is a can-do attitude and strong work ethic.
