Triple Canopy, a nonprofit arts magazine based in Manhattan, seeks a Deputy Director.
Triple Canopy works with artists and writers to address the critical issues that define contemporary life. The magazine collaborates with contributors on artworks, essays, fictions, conversations, performances, and books (among other media) from conception to realization, navigating the digital and physical realms where ideas and audiences take shape.Â
Along with the Director, Editor, and Deputy Editor, the Deputy Director is a key member of Triple Canopy’s leadership staff. The Deputy Director leads the magazine’s development strategy, working to enhance the existing revenue model and devise new approaches rooted in the magazine’s mission and values, while ensuring the alignment and successful execution of all fundraising efforts. This is a particularly exciting moment to join Triple Canopy, as the magazine is approaching its fifteenth anniversary and planning substantial changes to the editorial program.
The ideal candidate is a highly organized individual who demonstrates strong leadership and has a vested interest in developing creative strategies for actively engaging donors and other stakeholders in order to foster enthusiasm and support for the magazine. Triple Canopy’s program-driven fundraising approach is highly collaborative and most successful when campaigns and events artfully reflect the magazine’s work, ambitions, and values. To that end, we’re looking for someone who derives pleasure and sustenance from art and literature, and shares our belief that magazines should be testing grounds for new ideas, bringing together disparate forms of expression (and audiences).
The Deputy Director reports to the Director and acts as a member of the senior staff, along with the Editor and Deputy Editor. The Deputy Director regularly strategizes and advises on issues related to the creative direction, management, and welfare of the magazine, including changes to the program; the conception and execution of major initiatives; staffing; finances; and institutional partnerships. The Deputy Director supervises two full-time staff: the Manager of Institutional Giving & Public Engagement and the Development & Programs Assistant.Â
