FotoFest is seeking a Development Manager to administer the coordination and implementation of FotoFest’s grants and individual donor programs. The purpose of the position is to advance the organization’s mission, strategic goals and objectives by increasing the base of support for FotoFest’s programs and activities. The Development Manager is a full-time, exempt member of the FotoFest staff.

Responsibilities

In conjunction with the Executive Director, coordinating with FotoFest Fundraising Committees and Committee Chair, the position will:

  • Maintain the working portfolio of FotoFest’s current donors and prospects; develop and ensure that there is a clear strategy and timeline for cultivation, stewardship and solicitation for each major donor and prospective donor and facilitate communication and contact with existing donors through face-to-face solicitation stewardship meetings

  • Arrange meaningful face-to-face visits; plan major gift solicitations in conjunction with the Executive Director and appropriate Board members

  • Work closely with Executive Director to prepare written proposals tailored to selected prospects

  • Identify potential new sources of support from individuals as well as private foundations; develop strategies to cultivate and solicit these prospects; conduct one-on-one prospecting sessions with Executive Director, co-Founder, high-level donors, board members, staff, and others to identify and qualify major gift prospects

  • Develop meeting support materials including talking points, solicitation materials, background information, and follow-up proposals

  • Be a visible presence at fundraising special events, such as receptions during exhibitions, major donor cultivation events, and fundraisers such as the Biennial Fine Print Auction and Gala

  • Work closely with Executive Director and FotoFest staff to maximize the potential of fundraising events, including the Biennial Fine Print Auction and Gala

  • Develop calendars and action plans for campaigns, including annual fund, individual support, sponsorship and underwriting programs, private foundation grants, government grants, corporate support, membership and special events, etc.

  • Develop a strategy and supporting materials for an organizational planned giving program

Requirements

In considering potential applicants for this position, we think it is important that the individual have a real interest fundraising and development. This includes the ability to meet and listen to other people’s interests and needs, and to be able to develop relationships with them.

We would like to see candidates that have a B.A. degree in appropriate field (business, nonprofit or art administration). We would also consider it desirable to have two to three years of fundraising experience, with a record that shows increasing responsibility and measurable accomplishments. Experience working with an arts or cultural institution or organization is desirable.

In addition, we are looking for the following qualifications:

  • Able research, analytical, planning and organizational skills

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to present information in a variety of formats

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize and problem solve creatively and effectively

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work well with colleagues, donors, and other employees

  • Ability to perform well under pressure and work with tight deadlines

  • Familiarity and experience with current computer software and technology, including Word, Excel, Outlook, CMS, and fundraising software applications

  • Strong sense of fundraising ethics and commitment to the confidentiality of donor and organizational information

  • Willingness to adjust hours at times to accommodate the needs of the job

  • Familiarity with Houston, photography, and contemporary art collectors and donors will be considered a plus

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $40,000 to $55,000, and includes the following benefits:

  • Health/dental/vision insurance benefits premium fully covered

  • Participation in a SIMPLE IRA program

  • Three weeks of paid time-off: Two weeks of flexible accrued paid time-off plus one week of institutional paid time-off when the office is closed (winter holiday.) Paid sick time.

  • Closed on holidays: MLK Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas, New Year’s Day
