Independent is an organization that cultivates a discerning community, marketplace and discourse on the future of contemporary art. The Digital Director is responsible for planning, designing, developing, and managing the overall digital viewing and participation strategy.

We are looking for an experienced and result-driven Digital Director to join our team. In this newly-created position, the Director leads the programming, curation, and strategy for the gallery’s digital sales channels, which include over 65 online viewing rooms a year and new initiatives/platforms.

Additionally, this role will include: ideation of new content, the production of content, and the context of community around events (live/and digital) as a key focus. Execution on a strong content strategy to expand to Independent pillars of VIP, Editorial, curatorial, social for brand equity growth will be a key for this role.

This person is content driven in the field of digital, knows how to leverage existing interfaces and is deeply engaged with Contemporary Art’s online audience. As a key hire, you will be responsible for envisioning, implementing and overseeing the overall company’s new content strategy online.

In addition, the candidate is responsible for recruiting, guiding and training and other related positions in the team to produce original digital content with the Independent team, gallery exhibitors, museum partners and artists.

  • Build, plan and implement the overall digital content strategy with an emphasis on the audience discovery and social engagement

  • Establish meaningful media alliances with influencers

  • Organize with galleries and artists to develop and produce digital unique content

  • Lead a cultural program year-round online

  • Develop a catalog piece in alignment to the fair for remote artwork viewing and engagement

  • Recruit coordinate and train an implementation and production team

  • Manage and oversee Independent’s platforms and channels of distribution

  • Measure ROI and KPIs

  • Prepare and manage digital marketing budget

  • Oversee all original content production and distribution

  • MA in Marketing, Digital technologies or similar field of relevance

  • A passionate belief that artists and users should be at the center of the conversation.

  • Strong track record in IGTV programming with regard to live event contexts.

  • A history of organizing gathering, lectures, panels and symposiums.

  • 5+ years of experience in developing and implementing innovative digital strategies

  • In depth knowledge of existing and new platforms

  • Good working knowledge of best practices

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with SEO, Google Analytics and CRM software

  • Basic knowledge of web design procedures

  • Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on company’s success

  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
