Tacoma Art Museum (TAM) seeks a driven and collaborative Communications Manager to play an integral role as a member of TAM’s Marketing and Communications team. The Marketing and Communications Manager creates, in collaboration with the marketing team, content for TAM’s marketing and communications channels. Assists department leadership with administrative duties, public relations efforts, and other duties as assigned. Ideal candidate will have a strong background in communications, social media strategy and implementation, tracking and analytics, along with organizational and planning skills.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate, innovative and engaging content which maintains the TAM brand and voice.

  • Schedule, post, respond to, and follow relevant online content.

  • Strategize, plan and monitor all digital channels to increase audience engagement opportunities.

  • Create and manage a social media channels meet regularly with other department to discuss upcoming needs, concerns and opportunities.

  • Develop and create graphics, video, audio and written content.

  • Develop and maintain Google Adwords grant.

  • Work with TAM Teens for social media and communications needs.

  • Assist with public relations functions as needed.

Social:

  • Actively listen to relevant community conversations and monitor the Museum’s online presence.

  • Cultivate relationships with social media influencers to increase the Museum’s profile and attendance.

  • Manage social media budget for promoted posts and ad campaigns.

  • Develop and maintain Museum’s social media style guide and internal polices to convey consistent voice, tone and brand.

  • Maintain open communication with museum colleagues to stay informed on upcoming events and museum initiatives, shaping the messaging for visitors, the community, and followers

  • Develop engagement plans to spark return visits and convert followers to members/advocates.

Reporting:

  • Produce reports and dashboards that reflect TAM’s online engagement. Monitor traffic and trends and site statistics. Track and report on Google Analytics, Mailchimp and social media analytics and provide information for assisting in the analysis of email promotions/communications and social media channels. Create monthly evaluation reports for online reviews and activity.

  • Assess the organization’s performance in accordance with peer organizations.

Administrative:

  • Manage departmental invoicing and billing

  • Contribute/manage the marketing team’s production calendar.

  • Other special projects as assigned by Director of Marketing and Communications

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Experience

  • Two or more years working experience in a communications-related field, knowledge of WordPress, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Hootsuite, Mail Chimp and Adobe Creative Suite and related applications required.

  • Demonstrated brand management, campaign marketing and content creation experience.

  • Knowledge of museum operations, the arts industry, arts marketing and Pierce County is a plus.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to use visual storytelling and social listening to create unique and engaging content.

  • Digital savvy professional, open to learning a variety of platforms and applications.

  • Professional integrity and ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion.

  • Strategic thinker with methodical project management and execution skills, with a strong interest in data and metrics

  • Ability to interact respectfully, collegially, and professionally.

  • Willingness to be a team player both within the department, throughout the organization, and in the community at large.

  • Belief in the museum as a cause for social good and a positive, and dynamic force for economic development.

  • Strong communication skills (oral and written).

  • Photography and videography editing skills preferred.

  • Must be a self-starter, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/tasks and see tasks through to completion, and remain flexible under pressure.

  • Service oriented with excellent relationship management skills. Courteous, personable and flexible; able to deal effectively and sensitively with a wide range of people. Exhibits an awareness and sensitivity to cultural and other differences when working with private organizations, volunteers, vendors, museum staff, and the general public.

  • Sense of humor and ability to dance on the head of a pin.

  • Travel, Working Conditions, and Physical Environment

The essential physical requirements of this position include:

  • Must be able to sit or stand at a workstation and/or a computer screen for the majority of the work day.

  • There is occasional need to stand, stoop or walk for long periods of time.

  • Frequently reaches with hands and arms and uses hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, machinery, computers, and/or controls.

  • Continuously exchanges information through listening and talking with staff, volunteers and individuals in the community;

  • Some work may be occasionally performed outside where employee is subject to adverse weather conditions.

  • Negligible local travel, less than 5% of work hours.
