For over 40 years ArtsConnection has one of New York City’s most comprehensive arts education organizations with programs in the performing, visual and media arts. The organization has provided innovative arts programming to millions of students in the NYC public school system, enhancing their intellectual, social and emotional growth, while developing groundbreaking educational models. Each year, ArtsConnection partners with over 120 schools across all five boroughs, reaching students in grades pre-K-12, through programs taught by a culturally diverse faculty of professional artists in media, theater, dance, visual art and music. During the out-of-school hours, ArtsConnection’s programs link NYC’s vast cultural resources to the developmental and educational needs of teenagers.

About the Position: The Development Associate position provides administrative support for its Development/Communications Office. The applicant should have a keen interest and high-level skills in both written communication and fundraising database management, the key focuses of the position. This staff member works with the Deputy Director for Development on a day-to-day basis and with the Grants Writer and Communications Manager, as well as providing regular support to the Executive Director for development/communications-focused projects and communicating with events management consultants.

Responsibilities
  • Providing writing and editing for the department’s staff, including for local, state and federal agency and foundations; corporate grant proposals, reports and acknowledgements; concept papers, individual correspondence; marketing and publications collateral;

Raiser’s Edge fundraising database management, including entry and reporting of donations and processing of web-based donations; frequent report creation to support both short and long-range fundraising goals for staff and Board members;

  • Record-keeping and data gathering, including city demographics and program results specific to ArtsConnection;

  • Managing the administrative aspects of the annual appeal and annual report, including coordination of print materials and mailings; following up with acknowledgement letters;

Interfacing with events management consultants and Board of Directors on annual benefit, including list generation, digital and hardcopy invitations, journal preparation, and acknowledgement letters;

Handling administrative aspects of regular off-site cultivation events and Board of Directors and Board Committee meetings;

  • Providing information to department staff for fundraising reports to Board of Directors;

  • Coordinating the preparation and mailing/electronic submissions of foundation and corporate funding reports;

Assisting in ongoing research of corporate and foundation funding sources;

Coordinating projects with the Communications Manager, including digital newsletters and on-line and social media fundraising appeals;

Collaborating with ArtsConnection’s staff on the various new development/communications projects which are generated regularly.

Annual salary: $50,000

Hours: 9 am – 5 pm

Requirements
  • Strong writing, proofreading and editing skills (writing samples will be required);

  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Raiser’s Edge (required), Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;

  • A positive demeanor, a “can-do” attitude, the ability to take and give feedback gracefully and engage in processes and interactions that result in the department’s and the overall organization’s success;

  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively and under pressure to meet deadlines and due dates quickly and accurately;

  • Excellent personal and phone communication skills;

  • Good problem solving skills; detail-oriented; knowledge of administrative, clerical procedures and practices; ability to adhere to accepted organizational style guide practices;

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience.
