The Art and Design Department at SUNY Buffalo State is seeking an assistant professor (tenure track) in the area of 2D/3D Digital Art and Design Foundation with an intellectually and technically sophisticated curiosity-driven approach to digital 2D/3D Art and Design that translates into curricular leadership in digital technologies, visionary program development of attractive career oriented degree paths, and excellence in teaching and scholarship.

Responsibilities

Applicants are expected to have superior digital design skills and be literate in a broad range of software and hardware of the Art and Design Department’s digital fabrication Tech Hub. Advanced knowledge and experience in equipment and processes in the Tech Hub and on-going pursuit of knowledge in experimental and emerging technologies, as well as continuous development of the Tech Hub infrastructure, are expected.

Candidates must be open for interdisciplinary collaboration across diverse mediums and technologies and able to work with faculty across the spectrum of disciplines within the Art and Design Department and with other Academic Affairs departments at Buffalo State. Candidates with a strong commitment to innovative teaching practices, cultural awareness, critical practice, theoretical scholarship are encouraged to apply.

The appointee will teach three undergraduate courses per semester in 2D/3D Digital Art and Design Foundation and other Art and Design courses as assigned; engage in scholarly research and creative activity; advise students; and participate in department, college, and community service, as well as accreditation responsibilities (National Association of Schools of Art & Design).

Requirements

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. or a M.F.A. in Art, Design, Architecture, Interior Design or a related field; documented ability to teach digital 2D/3D art & design courses with an extensive digital fabrication component; expertise in 3D Computer Modeling, Parametric Design, Digital Visualization and Presentation Methods; as well as a record of creative activity in digital 3D design and fabrication and/or scholarship, and the potential for the continuation of such work.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include college-level teaching experience; an ability to teach digital fabrication courses in Rhino CAD, Grasshopper, Adobe CC with a strong focus on creative problem solving and aesthetics; and an extensive exhibition record of creative activity in digital 3D design and fabrication.
