Editorial Coordinator

Triple Canopy

Triple Canopy, a nonprofit arts magazine based in Manhattan, seeks an Editorial Coordinator.

Triple Canopy publishes and presents work by artists, writers, and researchers, primarily through the magazine’s digital platform but also in conversations, performances, videos, books, and podcasts, among other media and experiences. Collaborating with contributors from the conception to the realization of projects, Triple Canopy navigates the digital and physical realms where ideas and audiences take shape.

Working closely with Triple Canopy’s editors, the Editorial Coordinator will manage the production of publications, focusing on projects to appear on the magazine’s digital platform. This role also involves drafting and coordinating communications—from mailers to social media campaigns—about the magazine’s work, in collaboration with editors as well as designers and contractors. The Editorial Coordinator will organize the publication schedule and track the magazine’s work via a project management platform, ensuring that deadlines are maintained and information is shared with all relevant parties. The Editorial Coordinator will participate in conversations with leadership staff about the conception and planning of major initiatives, considering the magazine’s capacity and resources.

This is a full-time position based out of Triple Canopy’s office and venue in Manhattan, with a starting salary of $60,000 plus full health benefits, four weeks of paid vacation, as well as all federal holidays and the week between Christmas and New Years. The commitment for this position is forty hours per week, which includes occasionally working on (or attending) events in the evening.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate is highly organized, demonstrates exceptional management skills, and has a flair for translating complex ideas into clear, compelling language. Triple Canopy’s editorial approach is collaborative and interdisciplinary, and online publications often involve custom interactive formats and original videos, images, and audio, as well as text. To that end, we’re looking for someone who derives pleasure and sustenance from art and literature, and shares our belief in magazines as testing grounds for new ideas, bringing together disparate forms of expression (and audiences).

The Editorial Coordinator will report to the Deputy Editor and act as a member of the editorial staff, along with the Editor, Deputy Editor, and Senior Editor. While contributing to the conception and facilitating the execution of editorial projects, the Editorial Coordinator will assist the Deputy Editor in the development and maintenance of the annual production budget. As part of this work, the Editorial Coordinator will liaise with staff and contractors in production and design. Occasionally, the Editorial Coordinator may supervise a paid intern.

  • Proven to be highly organized, self-directed, detail-oriented, and strategic; excellent at synthesizing various kinds of information in assessing and organizing collaborative work;

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including a high level of comfort with directing the work of others;

  • Enthusiastic engagement with contemporary art, literature, and media, as well as the political dimensions of cultural work;
