The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) seeks an experienced AV Technician to manage audio/visual components throughout the museum including a 363-seat auditorium; public gallery spaces; and back of house office and other work spaces. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Chief Technology Officer in the Digital Experience & Communications division.

Responsibilities

Ensures smooth operation of AV components for all BMA programming, event rentals, in-gallery and conference room audio visual needs.

Supports and maintains all internal audio-visual equipment and non-print media assets.

Conducts research on, and make recommendations for, AV products and assists with their installation.

Acts as lead technician for all exhibition and collection related audio/visual and for the majority of museum events.

In collaboration with the Private Events & Program Planning Manager, manages budget for contracted, temporary auditorium event staff.

Manages booking requests for AV equipment and setup.

Works closely with Curatorial, Installation, Conservation, Registration and Facilities & Engineering departments to adhere to strict artistic, architectural, electrical and fire codes.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in an art/theater related field or professional experience equivalent

  • Minimum of 3 year’s technical experience with theatrical equipment including but not limited to lighting board, sound board, and video cameras

  • Minimum of 3 year’s hands-on experience working with a wide variety of events and exhibitions including but not limited to film screenings, musical concerts, performance art, conferences, etc.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication (both written and oral) skills • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends and to be on-call for various events

  • Ability to lift/transport heavy to moderately heavy objects
