Pratt Institute’s Communications and Marketing division seeks a Senior Designer who will be a key member of the Creative Services team. The Senior designer, under the supervision of the Creative Director, collaborates with our writing, digital, marketing, and client services teams in the design and development of attractive, innovative, and user-centric solutions for integrated, multi-platform use across Pratt’s web, digital, and print media.

Responsibilities

Assist the Creative Services team in implementing and iterating upon the Institute’s overall design strategy, ensuring that materials for all departments adhere to the Pratt brand.

Collaborate with the digital, marketing, public relations, editorial, and client services teams to create and execute dynamic, mobile-first communications and marketing concepts for internal clients.

Create print and digital materials for various stakeholders across the institute, including, but not limited to: posters, invitations, publications, exhibition and event materials, websites, email templates, social media campaigns, and motion graphics.

Clearly communicate creative ideas to both supervisors and clients.

Interface with internal clients from beginning to end of a project: strategize, create, present, and execute design concepts.

Works with the project management team to deliver solutions that are timely and effective.

Maintain own project schedules and delivery procedures.

Mentor and manage junior design staff and student interns.

Provide art direction and concept development for select photo and video projects.

Prepare files and print specifications for vendors.

Work with front end developers to build websites and online applications.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have impeccable design skills, demonstrated experience overseeing other designers, managing client projects, and extensive expertise in developing design concepts across multiple touchpoints consistent with desired project goals, messaging, and user experience.

Must be a deeply collaborative, multidisciplinary designer, who is passionate about design and its impact, and is a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of visual systems.

The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, organizational, and creative problem-solving skills. Can demonstrate the capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining high-quality products and services.

Most importantly, the ideal candidate will be a strong conceptual thinker who creates visual solutions; an articulate communicator who can present and explain those concepts and solutions; and a nuanced collaborator who welcomes participation, gives and accepts constructive feedback, and thrives on the inspiration that comes from hearing all voices. Education: Bachelor in Fine Arts in communication design, related field or equivalent experience is required. A Masters degree in design is a plus.

Experience: 5+ years designing for print, web and digital. Full-time employment experience with an agency, studio or in-house department is preferred.

Familiar with Human Centered Design principles and has the empathic ability to understand the experiences, needs, and desires of intended audiences.

Expertise in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects. Familiarity with Sketch is a plus.

Experience with UX design for mobile/web/digital platforms.

Familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript.

Familiarity with higher education and art institutions is a plus.

Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
