Hindman Auctions, one of the nation’s leading and fastest growing fine art auction houses, is seeking a Researcher/Cataloguer for our Fine Art Department. The primary focus of the Researcher/Cataloguer is to conduct research on the provenance and authentication of works of art, as well as produce auction catalogues for the Department. The Researcher/Cataloguer should also have a passion for uncovering information and learning about various works of art.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct research for property on provenance, exhibition history and auction comparables that will be used for the department’s catalogues.

  • Coordinate the authentication and restoration of property with appropriate experts

  • Meet with in-house appointments and walk-ins to then generate appraisals

  • Respond to online inquiries for the department

  • Maintain cataloguing standards and oversee edits with the Director of the department

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Art or related field preferred

  • 3-5 years of art industry experience, preferably within the auction industry

  • Knowledge of 19th Century American & European Paintings

  • Fluency in French preferred, other foreign language skills a plus

  • Superior communication, client service, and interpersonal skills

  • Strong follow-up skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications
