Hindman Auctions, one of the nation’s leading and fastest growing fine art auction houses, is seeking a Researcher/Cataloguer for our Fine Art Department. The primary focus of the Researcher/Cataloguer is to conduct research on the provenance and authentication of works of art, as well as produce auction catalogues for the Department. The Researcher/Cataloguer should also have a passion for uncovering information and learning about various works of art.
Conduct research for property on provenance, exhibition history and auction comparables that will be used for the department’s catalogues.
Coordinate the authentication and restoration of property with appropriate experts
Meet with in-house appointments and walk-ins to then generate appraisals
Respond to online inquiries for the department
Maintain cataloguing standards and oversee edits with the Director of the department
Bachelor’s degree in Art or related field preferred
3-5 years of art industry experience, preferably within the auction industry
Knowledge of 19th Century American & European Paintings
Fluency in French preferred, other foreign language skills a plus
Superior communication, client service, and interpersonal skills
Strong follow-up skills and attention to detail
Excellent writing skills
Proficiency in MS Office applications
