albertz benda, a contemporary art gallery in Chelsea, seeks a full-time Gallery Assistant. The position is available immediately, Tuesday through Saturday. Salary commensurate with experience and includes benefits.

The Gallery Assistant will assist with sales & client relations, run archival and cataloguing projects, help prepare for upcoming exhibitions and art fairs, and assist the Partners, Director, and Staff with projects as needed. This position provides an opportunity for growth with a close-knit team.

Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

Sales and Client Support

  • Creating client offerings on behalf of Partners & Director – creating detailed and sharp proposals

  • Corresponding with clients on behalf of Partners & Director

  • Preparing client mailings

  • Adding contacts to database and updating client contact information

  • Greeting visitors and answering calls when necessary

Archiving

  • Processing images using photoshop & archiving according to gallery protocol

  • Organizing and maintaining image server & artist materials

  • Working with press & curators on image needs

  • Liaising with artist studios and museums to request materials

Research Artworks/Artists

  • Updating artist CVs, bibliographies; formatting and archiving press

  • Liaising with artist studios to request materials

  • Adding literature & exhibition references and provenance to database

  • Performing research for upcoming exhibitions, fairs

Press and Public Relations

  • Liaise with Director, Registrar, and Partner to maintain press approved images and support materials

  • Assist with press correspondence, including editing and content

  • Writing and editing proofreading texts

  • Liaising with Director to communicate and enforce deadlines for articles and advertisements

  • Sending regular e-mail updates to press contacts

Digital platforms

  • Updating website info with current and upcoming Exhibitions, Artist CVs, Articles, and Images.

  • Uploading artworks to Artsy under supervision of the Director

  • Managing Instagram content – working with Senior Staff to develop & post content for Instagram

Administrative

  • Coordinating travel arrangements: Booking flights/hotels/appointments

  • Managing expense receipts

  • Maintaining calendars & contacts

  • Maintaining memberships

  • Managing appointments and errands as needed for senior staff

Requirements

The Gallery Assistant should have a professional demeanor, background in art or art history, be prepared to answer questions from the public, liaise with clients and sales staff, and learn about gallery artists so that they can speak with visitors.

Applicants must have proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, and InDesign), and a familiarity with inventory management systems such as ArtBase or Artsystems. Additional languages are a plus.
