Gallery Assistant

Jeffrey Deich Inc. is seeking a full time gallery assistant to join our team at our Los Angeles gallery spaces. The successful candidate will be highly organized and detail-oriented, with excellent client service skills and a strong interest in contemporary art. This role is a front-desk position and is an important contributor to overall gallery function and visitor experience. This is a great opportunity that will allow you to grow with the gallery and to play a significant role in its operations.

Regular hours are 10AM – 6PM, Tuesday through Saturday during exhibition periods, and 10AM – 6PM, Monday through Friday during non-exhibition periods. The flexibility to work occasional extra hours on weekends and evenings to support gallery programming and events is required.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as first point of contact for visitors to the gallery by promptly welcoming guests and answering questions about the exhibition in an informed and professional manner

  • Assist Gallery Owner and Directors with general administrative tasks related to exhibition planning

  • Prepare and maintain materials relating to gallery programming, external projects, and art advisory, such as sales offerings, exhibition checklists, artist and artwork recommendation PDFs, prospect lists, and valuations

  • Draft and send communications to clients on behalf of Gallery Owner and Directors

  • Accurately enter and maintain client and artwork information in gallery databases

  • Assist with organizing and supporting events, such as exhibition openings and dinners

  • Work with other gallery assistants to manage general office support duties such as filing, office organization, and mailings

  • Demonstrate the highest level of discretion and confidentiality regarding gallery business

  • Additional responsibilities as assigned

Requirements
  • BA degree, preferably in Art History or a related field

  • A thorough knowledge of and interest in modern and contemporary art

  • Previous experience in a gallery, museum, auction house or other arts organization

  • Proficiency in Google Drive, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Mac OS; familiarity with Dropbox, database software (ArtLogic preferred), Artnet Price Database, Keynote and/or InDesign preferred.

  • Superior client service skills, including a professional and poised demeanor, an ability to interact with members of the public in a positive and friendly manner, and a professional email and phone manner

  • Ability to work as part of a team to accomplish tasks quickly and efficiently

  • Close attention to detail

  • Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills

  • A demonstrable interest in and willingness to learn about the Gallery’s history, programming, and mission
