Poetic Justice at MIT Media Lab researches social inequality across multiple fields to develop projects in sound, video, sculpture, installation and publication. We’re looking for Graphic Designers to help develop visual identities, websites, digital and printed educational/promotional materials for our projects ranging from public seminars to participatory artworks. Ideally, you’re interested in research-based approaches as well as multilingual and respectful design principles.
The Graphic Designer will work collaboratively with the Director, another Graphic Designer, Social Media Manager and Project Manager. This can be a full-time role with benefits or freelance. We’re open to remote work but should be on the east coast, preferably in NYC or Boston areas.
Develop visual identities and materials for Poetic Justice in collaboration with Professor Ijeoma and PJ group members
Conceive creative, coherent, and consistent visual strategies for PJ projects across media platforms (e.g., websites, apps, publications, social media)
Organize and manage visual assets for the PJ group, maintain metadata, and ensure uniform file specifications
B.A. or M.F.A. in Graphic Design or related field; or equivalent work experience
Advanced skill-set in Adobe Creative Suite and/or alternative graphics programs
Ability to work on multiple design projects and timelines simultaneously, both independently and collaboratively
Ability to work remotely and asynchronously
Knowledge of contemporary art and media culture
Knowledge of inclusive language
Interests in equity and social justice
Knowledge of Google Suite, Microsoft Suite (Word/Excel), Asana or other project management apps, etc.
Strong understanding of graphic concepts, typography, color and branding
Ability to take in feedback and adapt accordingly
Creative problem solving and idea generation skills
