The Wolfsonian–Florida International University seeks an Interpretation Specialist to help develop engaging interpretive content for diverse audiences of The Wolfsonian–FIU, an art and design museum in Miami Beach and part of Florida International University. Focusing primarily on writing and editing digital content, the Interpretation Specialist will collaborate closely with colleagues across museum departments and advocate for prioritizing clarity, accessibility, and quality.

Responsibilities
  • Works with internal stakeholders, third-party vendors, and partners to produce impactful content aligning with the museum’s mission, strategic goals, voice, brand identity, and collection strengths.

  • Writes, proofs, and edits informative, creative digital content with compelling narratives for platforms and projects such as in-gallery interactives, blog posts, audio guides, online exhibitions, and other web-based experiences.

  • Consults with staff collection experts to define angles of interest and key talking points about particular objects, acquisitions, gifts, and exhibitions.

  • Assesses, reviews, and approves all intellectual digital content prepared by other colleagues and student mentees, from advising on wireframing and UX to vetting copy, images, and calls to action.

  • Manages production schedules, deadlines, and calendars.

  • Maintains editorial and brand standards, including oversight of The Wolfsonian’s style manual and semi-annual staff training, and establishes content requirements.

  • Collects and interprets audience research, sharing critical takeaways with other departments and ensuring that projects are informed by supporting data and driven by audience needs.

  • Advocates for the visitor/user in the development process of any museum project.

  • Measures success using analytical tools, surveys, and other audience feedback.

  • Regularly audits and updates the website.

  • Supports social media, marketing, curatorial, and print-based projects for public audiences (brochures, object labels, galley text, family guides, newsletters, annual reports) as needed.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties logically related to the position.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of work experience in digital design/publication agency environments as content strategist, copywriter, or an editorial-related field.

Desired Qualifications

  • At least five (5) years of editorial experience, or Master’s degree and at least three (3) years.

  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills.

  • Awareness of best practices, policies, and procedures regarding museum audience engagement, collection interpretation, and accessibility.

  • Experience in digital media and communications.

  • Familiarity with Cascade and Google Analytics.

  • Bilingual (Spanish).
