SUMMARY: The Cataloger will assist the Fine Jewelry Department by examining and evaluating jewelry for over 65 auctions held yearly. This position will provide a great opportunity to learn about antique, estate, and period jewelry, as well as the auction industry.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Proficiency in the identification of gemstones and diamonds using tools provided; microscope, polariscope, refractometer, etc.
Ability to test and properly identify metal
Proficiency in calculating weights of mounted diamonds/gemstones
Proficiency in Microsoft applications, specifically Word and Excel
Excellent writing and/or cataloging skills
Strong researching skills in a high production environment
Demonstrated prioritization skills and ability to meet deadlines

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Must have the following technical skills: gemstone identification, color & clarity grading, ability to calculate carat weights, and metal testing.
Participate in previews; assist with clients including, setup and teardown.
Ability to work well in a high-pressure environment to ensure deadlines are met.
Ability to follow assigned formats
Appraisal skills helpful but not required

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: GIA Graduate Gemologist diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
