Firing Logistics: Program and monitor complex firing schedules; troubleshoot heating elements, thermocouples, and controller issues.
Glaze Chemistry: Optimize glaze inventory, mix large batches from raw materials, and conduct regular testing to ensure color and texture consistency.
Quality Control: Inspect fired pieces for defects (crazing, bloating, shivering) and adjust schedules or formulas accordingly.
Safety & Maintenance: Maintain kiln furniture, wash shelves, and ensure the kiln room meets all safety standards.
Technical Expertise: Extensive experience as a Kiln Technician or Studio Manager in a high-volume professional environment.
Advanced Knowledge: Deep understanding of pyrometric cones, atmospheric variables, and kiln repair.
Chemistry: Proficiency in glaze formulation and the ability to adjust recipes based on material variations.
Precision: A methodical approach to organization and a commitment to maintaining consistency across every firing cycle.
