The Manager of Museum Security & Visitor Experience oversees the safety and security of the Davis Museum building, artworks, staff, and visitors and ensures that the front line experience is welcoming and respectful for all. The position recruits, hires, trains, and supervises a team of part-time security staff, contract guards, and Student Visitor Assistants (SVAs); oversees and maintains all museum security systems, including burglar and fire alarms, surveillance systems, access controls, and building maintenance as it relates to security; is responsible for emergency preparedness and disaster recovery procedures, and ensures that all security and life safety systems are up to the highest industry standards. The position liaises and coordinates with the Wellesley College offices of Public Safety, Library and Technology Services, and Facilities in the maintenance and operation of the physical plant of the Museum.

The position is responsible for the daily operations and administration of visitor services, including overseeing the lobby admissions desk. S/he provides our diverse publics with physical and intellectual access to the Museum and its resources and ensures that visitors to the Museum have a positive experience. Toward these goals, the position also manages the Student Visitor Assistant (SVA) program, including training and mentoring 20+ diverse students as frontline in-gallery staff; hiring, evaluating performance, preparing weekly work schedules, and guiding skill development.

Reporting to the Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police and in partnership with the Davis Museum’s Associate Director for Operations and Collections Management, this full-time position oversees 2 part-time Security Supervisors, and a hybrid team of contract guards and Student Visitor Assistants (SVAs), and manages security staffing levels to meet all open/closed and special event needs.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The successful candidate will join the staff of a museum at the center of the intellectual life on a vital undergraduate campus, and should possess a strong commitment to the unique orientation of the academic museum and to the teaching mission of the Davis. Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years relevant security experience with at least 3 years supervisory experience, preferably in a museum setting; demonstrated work and/or educational history with basic

knowledge of digital security systems and comfort with equipment such as CCTV, digital video recorders, and digital cameras, and willingness to stay current with standards and innovations in the field of security technology; experience with facilities management; excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to work effectively, collegially, and collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff; the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently; and the capacity to maintain simultaneous priorities.
