Radius Books is seeking a full-time managing editor who will be an integral, creative, and collaborative member of the publication team, working with writers, artists, designers, and curators. In addition to overseeing day-to-day project management, the applicant should be someone who thrives in a fast-paced, team environment and is naturally resourceful and imaginative.
Organize all book submissions and prepare presentations of selected proposals for 6-8 Publications Committee per year; follow up with artists and/or institutions who submit book proposals
Develop book project presentations for various internal and external stakeholders, including foundations, distributors, donors, and co-publishers; gather information on artists and potential book projects from curators and scholars related to potential foundation-funded book projects
Draft contracts, budgets, and production schedules related to all books; manage production deadlines for artists, writers, co-publishers, and in-house staff
Work with artists to determine contributing writers or source historic/previously published texts for inclusion in books; edit and format original writing for contributors, offering suggestions for improvement and fact-checking
Work with publisher, artists, and curators to determine necessary permissions, and source high-resolution images and obtain necessary copyright permissions as needed
Organize captions, credit pages, author bios, and other back matter for all publications; correspond with artists, writers, and institutions to obtain necessary back matter content
Proofread typeset texts and input changes with designer
Participate in all Radius community events, including Artist Openings & Talks, Donation Days and Artist Weekend
Required: Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, Adobe InDesign, and Chicago Manual of Style
Preferred: Adobe Suite, Squarespace, Dropbox, editing and proofreading various types of original writing, experience in the arts, publishing, nonprofit, or design sectors a plus
General: enthusiastic about books and the arts; organized and able to manage timelines for multiple projects simultaneously; outgoing, communicative, and happy to engage with artists and writers; able to work independently and as part of a fast-paced team
Salary commensurate with experience
