BOMB Magazine is seeking its first Marketing and Communications Manager to develop and implement a strategic, comprehensive marketing and communications plan for the organization.The position reports to the Director of Audience Engagement and Digital Production and serves as a member of the management team.
Founded in 1981, BOMB comprises a quarterly print magazine, a daily online publication, a podcast, the Oral History Project, and a digital archive of all previously published content.
Responsible for creating, implementing and measuring the success of a comprehensive marketing and communication plan that will enhance the organization’s image and position within the marketplace and with the general public.
Facilitate external communications; and all organization marketing activities and materials.
Develop marketing materials, such as one-sheets, pitch-decks, and press releases using InDesign, KeyNote, and Google Slides.
Monitor progress of marketing initiatives via analytics, assure adherence to best practices and evaluate results.
Coordinating, pitching, and marketing of all digital media projects.
Work with Director of Audience Engagement on sponsorship strategy and promotional materials for the organization.
Work with Circulation Director on creating marketing tools to raise subscriptions and sales.
Manage organizational social media presence including creating and directing branding content across multiple social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), and to engage and grow BOMB’s audiences by placing content on other aggregated platforms.
Coordinate and oversee relevant market research/surveys. Monitor trends.
Ensure that brand identity, messaging and marketing and communications strategy are infused in all organizational efforts (programming, development, and circulation).
Develop, implement, and evaluate marketing campaigns related to circulation and all public programming.
Guide the strategy on press outreach, including messaging in press releases, creation of press kits, and materials.
Activating and overseeing digital marketing campaigns. This includes BOMB’s weekly e-newsletter, Weekend Reads. Regular social media posting related to the online and print publishing schedule
Promoting and elevating public events through a broad outreach to local communities and city-wide press outlets.
BA/BS degree required; major in Strategic Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations strongly preferred.
3 to 5 years of experience in communications and marketing.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Experience in creating and implementing strategic communication plans.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with individuals across all organizational levels.
Commitment to the goals, values, and mission of the organization.
Understanding of nonprofit practices preferred.
Familiarity with contemporary visual arts institutions, persons, and events is a plus.
Strong branding skills. Previous experience developing and implementing a marketing plan preferred.
Digital native familiarity with file sharing tools
Social media fluency (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
Self-starter able to develop and track simultaneous projects and meet deadlines.
Preferred Skills:
- MailChimp, Google Docs, PowerPoint Hootsuite, Craft CMS, AdobeSuite, Photoshop, KeyNote, and Facebook Ad Manager. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and database software.
Salary and compensation competitive.
- Full-time at BOMB is four days per week plus after hours work at special events as needed.
