In our highly adaptable building on Manhattan’s west side, The Shed brings together established and emerging artists to create new work in fields ranging from pop to classical music, painting to digital media, theater to literature, and sculpture to dance. The Shed seeks a Membership and Development Communications Coordinator to provide a high level of support to the Development team by administering day-to-day membership operations, facilitating member and donor communications, and building positive relationships with donors to establish a renewable base of support for annual operations. The Membership and Development Communications Coordinator will report to the Membership Manager.

The ideal candidate has an interest in arts and culture and a determination to provide the best possible experience for donors to The Shed.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Work closely with the Membership Manager to assist with the creation of an innovative, 21st century donor program and the development of customized communication approaches for various donor segments

  • Work with the Development Operations team to accurately record membership and annual fund gifts within Tessitura; generate related communications including acknowledgements, member card replacement requests, etc. for internal processing, as well as in coordination with external mail house, and other related vendors

  • Build digital membership and donor email appeals, communications, and invitations in Wordfly; develop segmentation strategies and pull lists from Tessitura database

  • Work closely with the Editorial and Design teams, ensuring the creation and approval of all communication pieces remain on schedule

  • Generate and compile regular reports on the progress of campaigns and communications

  • Collaborate on creative ideas for member and donor engagement through communications, events, and special experiences

  • Assist with and attend special events including, but not limited to, cultivation events, member evenings, and behind the scenes events with The Shed’s creative team

  • Provide high-level customer service through phone and email correspondence with members and donors; work with The Shed’s Visitor Experience team to ensure all team members have the necessary resources to support membership and fundraising efforts onsite and in the phone room

  • Assist with administrative duties for all aspects of The Shed’s membership and individual giving programs

  • Other duties as required

Requirements
  • Two or more years of relevant experience in membership, development, marketing, or related field

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate professionally, effectively, and discreetly with volunteers, colleagues, and donors

  • Meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to multi-task, work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a highly motivated, energetic team in a growing organization

  • Adaptability and desire to join a start-up environment

  • Ability to work occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed

  • Microsoft Word and Excel; Tessitura or similar CRM database; and Wordfly or similar email management system

Compensation
