Goodman Taft is a curatorial and advisory firm with a focus on contemporary and modern art. Our multi-disciplinary platform and rigorous research-driven approach allows us to engage deeply and broadly with the art of the twentieth century through to that of the present.
We are currently seeking a dynamic, organized, outgoing, and experienced individual to work alongside the New York-based Senior Partner to assist with managing client outreach and to support all aspects of daily operations related to Art Advisory. This versatile role requires notable fluency with the contemporary art world and its players, impeccable attention to detail, strong writing and communication skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, and the ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
Responsibilities span various sales support and administrative tasks, including but not limited to:
Provide support and assistance during gallery visits, art fairs, and client meetings. Manage subsequent follow up from these interactions, capturing content, executing outreach and follow up, and communicating all relevant updates to the team
Schedule appointments and prepare materials for meetings; oversee calendar management and travel planning
On-site support of New York installations and various third-party vendor meetings when and where relevant, in collaboration with the Registrar
Participate in and support New York-based auction activities
Research and prepare high-level artist dossiers, including images, information, critical analysis, etc., for offers of works of art to clients
Attend gallery openings, museum lectures, studio visits, symposia, etc. with the Partners and in their place with frequency
Identify ways to maximize productivity, efficiency, and strategic effectiveness at all times
Assist on any front that advances the overall business objectives of the organization
This role represents an opportunity to deepen and deploy one’s knowledge and savvy about the contemporary art world and to assist a small, collaborative, and dynamic team led by women. Being a collaborative and nimble team player is essential as the role will require working closely with the team in our Cambridge office on a daily basis.
There is an expectation of extended availability (i.e. evenings, weekends) throughout the year, but especially during times of peak art world activity (e.g. major fairs, auctions, seasonal openings, etc). There may also be the need to travel to various fairs and art events outside of New York.
BA in Art History preferred; keen interest in contemporary art and living artists a must; fluency in foreign languages is a plus. Ideal candidates will have 1-3 years’ (post intern) experience at a leading contemporary art gallery. Auction house or advisory firm experience is a plus. Candidates should have excellent verbal and written communication skills; computer skills with proficiency in Artlogic or other database program, Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Apple products, etc.
