The Per Diem Educator works within School, Family, and Adult Programs to facilitate interactive inquiry-based gallery tours, studio art workshops, and special programs for the Education Department in a freelance capacity. The ideal candidate is someone who is able to engage with a wide variety of audiences and who possesses a strong background in art history, studio art, and/or museum teaching. Availability to teach both Sunday and weekday programs is preferred. Qualified candidates may have the opportunity to develop multi-session partnership programs for schools and families.
Develop and lead gallery tours for family and Pre-K – 12 school groups in both temporary and collection exhibitions
Facilitate art-making workshops for families and school groups using a range of materials and processes
Participate in training sessions, lectures, and walk-throughs in conjunction with temporary and collection exhibitions
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s preferred. Fields of study include Fine Art, Art History, Museum Education, Art Education, or Museum Studies
Previous inquiry and object-based teaching experience in a museum setting required
Comfort with art materials and with facilitating studio experiences
A flexible schedule, with both Sunday and weekday availability preferred
Willingness to travel throughout NYC for off-site programs
Experience working with visitors with disabilities a plus
