Job Summary
This position will assist with developing, organizing, and implementing high quality Arts & Crafts Pottery programming for the Center for Arts & Crafts at the Greenville Recreation & Parks Department (GRPD). This position will direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for pottery instructor staff in accordance with GRPD policies and procedures, while creating a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes creativity and safety.
Must be at least 21 years old.
Examples of Duties
Teach pottery at all levels (beginner to advance classes).
Supervise firing and perform routine maintenance of kilns.
Check kilns regularly 3 to 5 times per week and ensure that they are loaded and unloaded as needed.
Recommend program enhancements to ensure that pottery member and patron needs are being met.
Aid in equipment maintenance research and in contacting the manufacturer to order replacement parts as needed.
Ensure inventory records of supplies and equipment are current and complete.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the program and participation.
Maintain pottery logs, updates, and incident reports.
Ensure that pottery class firings remain on schedule.
Assist with class coverage as needed.
Pug clay as needed for class use.
Perform pug mill maintenance.
Check traps in pottery classrooms; empty one time per month.
Inventory and check glaze levels, mixing new glazes as needed.
Maintain MSDS labels and refill glaze mixes as needed.
Responsible for adhering to all safety policies and procedures of the department.
Complete other related duties as assigned and report any repairs or equipment problems to the Arts and Crafts Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Four-year degree in Fine Art with a concentration in Ceramics or comparable training preferred.
Previous experience working with youth and adults preferred.
Prior pottery teaching experience preferred.
Applicants should have examples of personal artwork available for review.
CPR and First Aid/AED Certification to be obtained within 90 days of hire.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
