Production Manager

Kevin Beasley Studio is seeking a fully committed, highly professional, self-motivated, and detail-oriented New York-based individual to work full-time (Monday to Friday, 10am - 6pm) as a production manager. Occasional overtime and travel for special projects will be necessary as well.
The candidate will work closely with the artist to maintain the production and shipping schedules, as well as hands on production of artworks that range from sculpture to sound installation. The candidate will be committed long-term to the overall success of the studio and the needs of the artist. A well-suited candidate will be a strong communicator (both written and verbal), capable of working in a fast-paced environment, proactive, self-starter, punctual, organized, will work well individually and with a team, and can manage multiple projects at once with both long and short-term deadlines. The candidate should be cordial, discreet, articulate, and professional. The candidate should have a familiarity with the artist Kevin Beasley’s practice and have extensive knowledge of contemporary art.
Start Date: February 1st, 2024
Duties include (but not limited to):
Management of studio’s production schedule in collaboration with artist, studio manager, and studio assistant.
Management of the studio’s calendar, digital archive and material inventory.
Maintain studio supplies/stock to keep productivity fluid and at its highest capacity.
Establish workflow in the studio’s production fabrication facilities.
Assist the artist with fabrication of artworks, ranging from sculpture to sound installation.
Co-ordinate shipment of artworks and liaise with representing galleries in New York and Los Angeles on all logistics.
Work closely with the artist on the development of proposals for large-scale projects.
Co-lead on ongoing projects, including 1741 Forstall Street in New Orleans, a multi-year site specific project which was initiated in 2022 for Prospect.5, New Orleans.
Requirements:
Degree in Studio Art, Art Administration, Art History OR equivalent work experience.
3+ years of experience working in an artist’s studio or similar.
Knowledge of numerous fabrication techniques, including but not limited to mold making, woodworking, and metalworking.
Experience with and comfort in mold making and casting using Polyurethane and Epoxy based resin.
Experience with and comfort in using hand and power tools for both wood and metal (mig/tig welding is a plus).
Fluency in digital image making and development of artwork proposals.
Knowledge of PC and Mac platforms, Microsoft Office, and Photoshop required; 3D modeling programs, photography, sound editing, and digital inkjet printing are a plus.
Knowledge of digital photography and image editing.
Excellent administrative skills, extremely organized and detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
The candidate should be self-motivated, capable of working independently and proactively to solve problems at hand.
An interest in contemporary art, art production and a familiarity with various studio practices are necessary.
Knowledge in sound, video, and multimedia highly preferred, as this is central to the artist’s practice.
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
