The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a programer with 5+ years of experience to join the Program department. Public programs at the Skirball support the institution’s mission through the presentation of music, talks, film, performing arts, culinary, and special events for a diverse and multigenerational adult audience. This Program Associate position will have a particular focus on music and performance. Applicants should be detail-oriented, team-minded, mature, professional, and creative—a flexible team player with excellent communications skills to research, create, and implement public programs. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Programs.
In the development and production of public programs:
In collaboration with colleagues, develop and produce programs in music and performing arts, as well as across multiple disciplines, that support the Skirball mission and the Program department’s audience goals.
Play a supporting role in the production of programs for which fellow colleagues in the department have taken a lead role.
Present program ideas to the team and take steps to implement approved activities as directed.
Present fees for approval; maintain and update contracts and data on expenditures, attendance, and income. Prepare financial projections and per-event budgets.
In the coordination of all activities related to event logistics:
Communicate with all departments for event logistics (Hospitality and Private Events, Operations, Communications and Marketing, Security, Audrey’s Museum Store, and Zeidler’s Café).
Coordinate communications between artist and production manager.
Coordinate travel for performers and speakers, both domestic and international.
Represent the department at public programs; introduce speakers and performers, monitor audience flow, and troubleshoot as needed. Supervise volunteer staff at events.
Minimum three years of significant responsibility for programming and implementing cultural events in a cultural arts environment, and preferably 5+ years of experience in similar programming or production positions
Collaborative work style; ability to work successfully in teams
Self-motivated, able to prioritize, meet deadlines, and multitask
Prior experience negotiating fees and contract details with talent
Superior oral and listening communications skills and the ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultures, ages, and economic backgrounds
Experience and contacts within the Los Angeles arts, culture, and entertainment communities
