Programs and Operations Manager
CALL// City as Living Laboratory
CALL // City as Living Laboratory works with artists, scientists, and residents of urban communities to create sustainable solutions for urgent environmental issues including climate, equity and health. We help people connect environmental challenges to personal experience and take action. Founded by artist Mary Miss in 2009, CALL produces ambitious projects which grow out of grassroots environmental concerns in the neighborhoods they are situated in. CALL’s current major projects are based in New York City and Milwaukee, in addition to a growing national initiative.
The Programs and Operations Manager will advance CALL’s mission by overseeing New York City programmatic initiatives, virtual events, fundraising events, and pilot programs, with an eye on the complete schedule of CALL’s total programmatic calendar and the general operations of the studio. If you believe that artist-led projects can make a difference in the world, have a track record of contributing to impactful events or public programs, and excel at distilling big visions to measurable actions, you’re the kind of person we’re looking for to join our team. At the same time, they are also part of the connective tissue for the organization, ensuring all essential operations tasks are taken care of. It’s a role that uniquely balances creative vision and high-level organizational skills. On one day, you might be planning and moderating a virtual panel, recruiting and selecting artists for public projects, or out on the streets at a CALL event. The next day you might be touching base with the bookkeeper, updating a budget, or organizing an upgrade of the printer. You will ensure that communications are open between staff working on a diversity of projects and programs, so that the full picture of the organization’s work can be communicated and that the workload can be managed effectively.
