Registrar and Research Assistant

The Chicago Woodman LLC Studio seeks a Registrarial and Research Assistant to aid in records maintenance and ongoing research projects. The duties of this position include managing an art collection database, updating and processing image, video, audio and other digital files as needed, assisting with artwork loans and consignments, and working alongside other studio staff to conduct research centered on women’s history. Desirable candidates will have a strong attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, and be meticulous and timely in their record keeping. In addition to working closely with Judy Chicago and Donald Woodman on various projects, the Registrarial and Research Assistant will need to work collaboratively with other staff. This full time position requires working in our offices based in Belen, NM daily.

Responsibilities

REGISTRATION:

  • Updating records in EmbARK, the studio’s collections management system, on a weekly basis or as otherwise required

  • Assisting with organization of artwork files, including image files, collector data, provenance records, and associated information.

  • Assisting the Studio Manager with maintaining up-to-date consignment records

  • Assisting the Studio Manager with coordination of loans to museums and galleries

  • Assisting the Warehouse Manager with maintaining accurate location records and condition reports

  • Keeping accurate records of archival materials and preparing items to be sent to our archive partners

  • Assisting with maintenance and organization of digital and physical files not directly related to artworks such as, press articles, interview transcripts, publications, exhibition records, and updating websites as needed.

RESEARCH

  • Work closely with Judy Chicago on ongoing research related to women’s history

  • Maintain accurate and well organized files related to research conducted

  • Provide written reports/summaries on such research as requested

Requirements

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Educational background in Art History, Museum Studies, Women’s History, or Women’s Studies with a history of conducting and preparing research.

Experience working in a museum or gallery setting

Knowledge of best practices for maintaining art collection records

Knowledge of collections and/or digital asset management systems

Experience with basic photo editing

Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
