Galerie Buchholz is seeking a motivated and engaged registrar to oversee all logistical aspects of its New York gallery. This is a full-time position with benefits. Galerie Buchholz is an international gallery with locations in Berlin, Cologne, and New York, and participates in art fairs worldwide.
Coordinate domestic and international shipping
Source shipping and crating estimates
Track movement of artworks and ensure that inventory system is kept up to date
Work with off-site storage partner and maintain database
Generate and review condition reports
Generate and maintain consignment and loan paperwork
Work with artists’ studios, clients, and other vendors to coordinate pickups and deliveries
Art handling, hands-on exhibition installation, and hiring and overseeing freelance art handlers
Communicating with registrars of Berlin and Cologne galleries
Proficiency with Mac, Creative Suite, Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Outlook). Experience with database software Artbutler a plus
Understanding of industry best practices for packing, handling, and shipping contemporary art
Expertise with worldwide art shipping and customs regulations
Knowledge of other languages (especially German) is a plus.
Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and create clear and organized schedules in a fast-paced environment
Priority will be given to candidates with at least 2 years’ experience as a registrar for a contemporary art gallery, institution, or a fine arts shipping company
Salary is commensurate with experience.
